Smart Factory Romania announces the official launch of the national ecosystem that provides the optimal framework for bringing together all companies and institutions – suppliers and users of technologies – who wish to participate in the digital transformation of factories according to the Industry 4.0 concept, by investing in research and innovation.

The manufacturing industry is facing increasing challenges such as: global competition, reducing costs and delivery times, error rates and non-conformities and last but not least, reducing carbon dioxide emissions as part of the implementation of the European Green Pact. The implementation of the Industry 4.0 concept for production efficiency provides the solution to these global challenges.

The president of the association, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Eng. Bogdan-Constantin Pîrvu, states that:

”In order to meet these challenges, Smart Factory Romania proposes a multilateral concept that aims to support the digital transformation of the entire factory, from the production line to the IT infrastructure and administrative departments. Digital transformation involves a complex and lengthy process, but Smart Factory Romania helps factories not only join the Industry 4.0 transformation program, but it also provides the necessary support throughout the process, from a suitable refurbishment for optimal investment-benefit ratio, to the acquisition of data from machines and the interconnection of different information islands with a view to optimizing the relevant processes in the factory ”.

In addition to its main mission of developing and implementing the Industry 4.0 vision in a digitalized Romanian society, the organization also has objectives such as: training specialists with adequate skills in all factories in Romania, as well as organizing teaching, training and entrepreneurship activities.

The main services offered by the organization are technology testing and validation, investment identification, transfer of knowledge within the ecosystem, as well as training and offering support for the acquisition of digital skills. Due to participating in various research and innovation projects, the expertise of Smart Factory Romania members covers a wide range of know-how, from defining the vision of a system, product or service to its development as industrial implementation in production.

The representative of one of our partners states that these are levers to be exploited in order to intensify investment in research and innovation, essential actions for the future of industry and production in Romania.

Prototypes have already been developed within the organization to validate concepts and technologies relevant to the digital transformation of factories. Smart Factory Romania invites organizations that share the same vision of developing the industrial sector in Romania to join the initiative.
