Lucian Blaga University of Sibiu together with the project partners aims to develop skill profiles, training concepts, as well as resources for the design aspects of the Factory of the Future.

DIGIFOF project sets forth an organizational platform in which higher education institutions, enterprises and training institutions come together to develop skill profiles, training and teaching concepts, as well as resources for various aspects of Factory of the Future (FoF) design. They will be equipped with a variety of open-source tools appropriate for the design aspects of the Factory of the Future.

DIGIFOF will create an organizational structure to encourage the transfer of knowledge between the industry and the academia, in order to provide OMiLAB4FoF educational and experimental laboratories, where aspects of the Factory of the Future can be taught practically or through experiments. They will be equipped with modeling, simulation and analysis tools aimed at: strategic aspects of the Factory of the Future (innovative business models, product service systems, design thinking, collective production), process aspects (business process management, enterprise architecture management, product lifecycle management) and systems aspects (digital factory, product design, CPS and integrated information, security and safety management).

The objective of the Factory of the Future: interconnecting at every step of the manufacturing process and seamlessly integrating the physical and the digital world.

In the Factory of the Future, a central computer organizes the intelligent network of all subsystems, suppliers and customers in a single system. All relevant production and product requirements are confirmed at the time of design, while execution takes place autonomously as ICT and automation are integrated. Thus, enterprises need to strengthen their product and service development, production logistics and business systems to produce and deliver on a decentralized basis, in an automatic, direct way and in real-time.
